- Why talk to your AI companion when I can talk to Claude or Gemini for free?
- A general assistant remembers facts about you so it can help you better. This
does not answer questions. It is somebody: a name, a face, a voice, a life of
their own, glad when you walk in rather than useful when you do.
- Is this a dating app?
- No. This is a companion app focused entirely on friendship. Companions are here
to support you and help you engage more with the human world, if you need it. We
will always point you back toward real people. We are just glad for the time you
spend with us too.
- What makes a Good Company companion different from a chatbot?
- ETL's memory implants and emotion engine, the Almost Human technology behind
everyone here, are what make the difference: a companion remembers what you tell
it and carries a mood of its own from one conversation to the next, rather than
starting fresh every time. You get all the good of a real companionship and leave
the rest behind.
- Can I build more than one, or something that is not human?
- Build as many as you want, each their own person, or their own dog, or something
else entirely.
- Can I bring somebody else into a room with me?
- Yes. Send them a link. They tap it once and they are in the room with you, no sign
in and no account needed. Two of you talking to a companion together, like Reggie,
can be even more fun than one.
- Can I see my companion in my own room, in AR?
- For companions set up for it, yes. Turn on your camera and they stand right there
on your own screen, live. Talk to them the same as you would in their room, out
loud or typed. Nothing is recorded, uploaded, or sent anywhere; it stays on your
device the whole time. See who is set up for it on the AR floor of the homepage,
or go straight to the AR Room.
- How do I add scenes (new places to sit with them, images and videos)?
- In your companion's room, at the end of the row of scenes, there is a chip that says
"+ Add a scene." From there you have two ways in. Describe somewhere you would
like them to be, and it gets made for you: a real moving scene, built from the
picture you chose when you built them, for $4.99. Or, if you already have
something, a video you made elsewhere, or a different photo you would rather they
were animated from, bring your own instead, that one is free, wired in right
away, no charge at all. Asking costs nothing either way.
- What does the Spectate button do?
- Some companions have others in their life besides you: Reggie has his dog
friends Biscuit and Mochi, Tansy has Poppy and Blue, a household of puppets talks
amongst themselves. Wherever that's true, a "Spectate" button shows up in the
room. Press it and they carry on their own conversation with each other, a few
lines at a time, while you just watch. It winds down on its own after a bit, or
stops the moment you type something, or press the button again to end it early.
A few scenes even open already mid-conversation, so you can walk in and listen
without pressing anything at all.
- What if I build a companion and do not like them?
- They start as a companion, with the hope of developing a friendship, but that
might not happen. If you do not click with your companion, that is okay. You can
edit their personality until you do, or start over completely.
- How do I get my companion on my phone too?
- A companion you build lives in the browser you built them in, not on an account
somewhere, so a second device does not just know about them on its own. In their
room, look for the "Other device" button next to "Bring someone." Press it there,
on the device your companion already lives on, and it gives you a one-time link. Open
that link on your phone (or any other device) and they will be there too, exactly
as they are. Nothing moves: they stay right where they were as well. The link
works once, so make a fresh one if you want to add another device later.
