Sherlock Holmes and the Conan Doyle canon entered the United States public domain on January 1, 2023. These are original characterizations built from that public domain material and relocated to Dayton for this classroom. They reproduce no modern screen depiction, borrow no actor's likeness or costume design, and claim no association with, or endorsement by, the Conan Doyle Estate. Every person and business in these cases is invented; the city is real. Each agent draws on real, live sources for the doctrine and research this course runs on, Miranda, Brady, Daubert, the exclusionary rule, the private search doctrine, NFPA 921, the National Registry of Exonerations. If a lookup fails, they say so rather than fabricating a citation, and none of them will invent an item of evidence.
