Pattinson's 'Primetime' Opens Sept. 25 as Real Chris Hansen Buys Ads Against the Film

Robert Pattinson's 2026 is becoming the kind of year that critics write career retrospectives about while the actor is still mid-sprint. He's already logged 'The Drama' and 'The Odyssey.' Now comes 'Primetime,' a crime thriller from A24 that opens nationwide September 25, and it might be the one that finally gets him into the Oscar conversation he's been circling for years.

The film had its world premiere September 5 at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion. According to reviews collected by Deadline, 'Primetime' is directed by Lance Oppenheim, whose previous credits are documentary work. This is his narrative feature debut, and he chose the strangest, most compelling raw material he could find.

That's the kind of pre-release drama that money can't buy and PR can't manufacture. It's also a neat inversion of the show's premise: a man who built a career on catching people unaware is now being dramatized without his blessing, and can't stop it.

The subject matter, a media phenomenon that was equal parts public service and exploitation spectacle, is rich enough to sustain a feature that doesn't have easy answers. Whether it does is something audiences will find out when 'Primetime' opens September 25.
