The wait is over. As of today, August 5, the first seven episodes of Part 2 of Netflix's One Hundred Years of Solitude are streaming globally, and the series finale gets its own dedicated premiere on August 26. That's the news, and it's a genuinely big deal, both as a literary event and as a signal about where prestige streaming is putting its money in 2026.

According to Deadline, which exclusively detailed the release plan back in May, the final eight episodes cover the last fifty years of the century at the heart of Gabriel García Márquez's Nobel Prize-winning novel. Part 2 picks up immediately where Part 1 left off, with Macondo no longer the hopeful place it once was.

The release structure is unusual, and deliberately so. As Variety reported, the first seven episodes drop together on August 5, while the nearly two-hour grand finale gets its own standalone premiere on August 26. That's not a cliffhanger strategy; it's closer to a theatrical model. Netflix, in coordination with Colombia's promotional entity Proimágenes, is also staging special screenings of the finale in select Colombian cities. You don't do that for a content drop. The show earned that treatment. Part 1, which launched its first eight episodes in December 2024, became one of Netflix's biggest international successes, landing in the platform's Global Top 10 and earning overwhelming critical praise. Part 1 handled the founding of Macondo and the rise and long, ruinous decline of Colonel Aureliano Buendía with real structural intelligence, keeping the sprawling, multigenerational narrative legible without sanding off its strangeness.
