Anthropic Files for IPO, Disclosing $16.3 Billion in First-Half Revenue and an $80.7 Billion Net Loss

The Claude maker's S-1 reveals explosive revenue growth alongside a headline loss driven almost entirely by a non-cash accounting charge tied to convertible notes.

Anthropic filed its S-1 prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, putting its books in front of public investors for the first time and applying to list Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker 'ANT.'

The numbers are striking in both directions. According to the S-1 reviewed by TechCrunch and confirmed in the SEC filing, Anthropic generated $16.3 billion in revenue during the first half of 2026, compared with $1.2 billion in the same period a year earlier. That's more than triple the $4.6 billion the company booked across all of 2025, per the filing.

The net loss figure, $80.75 billion for the first six months of 2026, will command headlines. It shouldn't command quite as much analysis as it'll get. According to the S-1 as reported by The AI Insider, $72.4 billion of that loss reflects a non-cash fair-value charge tied to convertible notes, essentially an accounting consequence of the company's own rising valuation rather than cash burned on servers or salaries. Strip that out, and the operating loss for the first half was $693 million, down from a $2.14 billion operating loss in the same period the prior year.

The second quarter alone turned a corner. Per the filing as detailed by The AI Insider, Anthropic posted $11.6 billion in Q2 revenue alongside approximately $1 billion in operating income. The company said revenue growth outpaced growth in operating expenses as customer usage scaled and compute became a smaller fraction of each revenue dollar.

The enterprise customer base underpins that story. The filing says more than half of Fortune 500 companies were paying customers generating at least $100,000 in trailing 12-month revenue as of September 30. The top five customers accounted for about 25% of first-nine-months revenue, with no single customer above 10%, which limits concentration risk somewhat.

Revenue mix leans heavily on usage. Per an analysis of the S-1 by KuCoin News, about 80% of first-half revenue, roughly $13.1 billion, came from API and model calls, with the remaining $3.2 billion from subscriptions.

On cash, the picture is comfortable for now. The S-1 as summarized by Decode the Future shows $112.4 billion in cash plus $19.3 billion in short-term investments on the balance sheet as of June 30. That runway matters given the company's infrastructure spending trajectory.

The deal is a 22-bank syndicate job. Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are leading the offering, according to the filing as cited by Forbes. J.P. Morgan and Citigroup round out the top tier. Share count and price range are not yet disclosed; a subsequent S-1/A amendment will carry that detail. Reports, including one from Decode the Future citing unnamed sources, point to a mid-November listing, with November 19 or 20 named as possible dates.

Investors need to weigh a few risks before the roadshow. Customer concentration is modest but not zero. The top-five figure staying below 25% is reasonable for an enterprise software company, but the filing doesn't name the customers, and Amazon and Google are known strategic investors with their own competing AI products. The filing also leaves the share count blank, so dilution math is unavailable until the amendment drops.

Anthropics's revenue per compute dollar improved sharply. Per Yahoo Finance's coverage of the filing, the company now generates $2.08 in revenue for every $1 spent on compute, up from roughly $0.40 in early 2025. That ratio is the number a buyer of this IPO should track quarter to quarter once the company is public. If it compresses as competition forces pricing down, the operating profit line goes with it.
